iQniter Cardio Training Basics
What is iQniter Cardio Training?
It is a heart rate monitoring and reporting system designed specifically for fitness clubs.
How does it work?
Participants must wear an iQniter heart rate transmitter belt.
Suunto Team POD receiver automatically picks up the heart rate data from the heart rate belts and displays the data on a TV or projection screen.
Summary Reports are emailed automatically to all participants and instructors.
Training reports automatically sent to your training diary in Movescount.com
What’s the purpose of iQniter Cardio Training?
To guide and inspire people to train more effectively, and to reach their goals by utilizing real time intensity feedback and summary reports.
What can training with heart rate and iQniter Cardio Training tell me?
The true measured effort needed to complete the exercise. Whether or not you’ve improved your fitness level over time; if there was enough intensity and duration to improved or maintain your fitness level, calories burned.
What do the numbers I get mean?
Beats Per Minute (BPM) tells you how many times in a minute your heart is pumping to push blood to your extremities. As a result of the demands of the work BPM # changes. Per Cent of Maximum Heart rate (%) relates the same information in a ratio (your Current BPM divided by your Maximum BPM).
What do the colours mean?
The colours represent Heart Rate Training Zones which are based on per cent of Max HR values.
Do you need to wear a watch?
No, the Team POD is a receiving device which collects all the individual data streams from the transmitter belts and sends them to the software which displays data and creates reports. The Team POD is connected to the PC via USB.
What’s the Range of the Team POD receiver?
100 meter range.
Will iQniter Cardio Training work with other company’s heart rate belts?

Average Training Effect of recent sessions
How do you send the reports?
Hit “Send Feedback Button”. Reports are automatically emailed if “EMAIL” is selected under “FEEDBACK” in profile and a valid email address is provided in the “EMAIL” field (In Full Day Mode Participant Reports are sent automatically).
Can you print a report from PC at gym?
Yes, under the “FEEDBACK” field in the “Participants & Belts” section you can select Print, which will happen automatically when session is over and “SEND FEEDBACK” button is selected.
What if we don’t want an email or printout of report?
Select “NONE” in the “FEEDBACK” field located in the “Participants & Belts” section.
Heart Rate Training
What is Max Heart Rate?
It’s the absolute maximum number of times a person’s heart can beat in 1 minute at the highest possible intensity. (It is not a training peak or a number we often see in training).
What’s the formula iQniter uses to calculate Maximum Heart Rate?
iQniter Cardio Training uses Max HR = 207 – (0.7 x AGE), formula endorsed by ACSM.
Will the formula for Max heart rate be accurate?
On average it will be accurate for 60-70% of people. (All formulas for Estimating Maximum Heart Rate are based on population averages and do not work for everyone).
Why is Max Heart Rate important?
So the color-coded training zones will be accurate and make sense with energy systems they represent (color-codes are based on % of Max HR).
So the Calculations for kcal and TE will be accurate.
How can you determine Max HR?
You can use the formula in iQniter Cardio Training which will approximate Max HR.
You can do a Max HR test (see Trainer / Instructor).
You can look at aggressive Peaks from training and estimate Max HR.
What affects my heart rate response day to day?
Sleep, stress, nutrition, hydration, training load from previous days/ weeks, fatigue, adrenaline, competition, mental focus as well as many other factors.
Will my Max HR change over time?
No, your Max HR does not change but your Anaerobic Threshold can go up which allows you to achieve and sustain aggressive HR levels / Peaks more efficiently, with less fatigue.
What’s the best way to determine if my fitness has improved using heart rate?
Repeat a specific session of aerobic exercise or workout and compare your Avg HR for the session, when it goes down you have likely become more efficient and more fit.
When Training Effect for same session goes down you may have improved your fitness level.
Look at recovery times after hard peaks, when you can recover more quickly you have improved your ability to recover and possibly your fitness level.
Get VO2 Max test and see if Anaerobic Threshold & VO2 Max have gone up – indicates efficiency and max capacity improvements respectively.
Training Effect and Activity Class
What is Training Effect (TE)?
Training Effect (TE) is a calculated number on 1 – 5 scale in increments of 1/10 that describes the accumulated aerobic impact of the workout.
How is Training Effect calculated?
From analyzing heart rate and heart rate variation (the time between heart beats). Respiration rate and volume are first calculated then EPOC based Training Effect.
What is Activity Level?
Activity Level is a 1 – 10 classification for level of fitness which helps make accurate calculations for kcal and TE. (AL: 8 – 10 is for elite aerobic athletes).
What is the 1-10 Activity Level scale based on?
Intensity, frequency and duration of Aerobic Training per week. The scale with requirements is listed under the Participants and Belts, “ACTIVITY” field.
Suunto Dual Belt
Do the Suunto heart rate belts work with other gym equipment?
Yes, the Dual Belts work with all Suunto t-series Wrist Tops, iQniter Cardio Training (Team POD) and with gym cardio equipment.
Do the Suunto Heart Rate Belts have user replaceable batteries?
Yes. Standard 3 Volt, CR2032 batteries.
Are the belts waterproof, can I rinse them off under water?
Yes, make sure battery back is secure and flush with the case.
Does the belt signal encounter interference if participants are too close?
No, Suunto heart rate belts transmit information using digital radio technology which means no interference and no cross-talk.
Troubleshooting
What do I do if my heart rate values are not correct?
Ensure the contacts (electrodes) are wet. Adjust the belt so that it fits tighter against your chest.
Ensure that the belt is placed correctly: The middle part of the belt on top of the breast plate, logo upright.
What do I do if the energy consumption in my report seems incorrect?
Check that your personal information is entered correctly in iQniter Cardio Training (Activity Class, max HR, weight and height all affect the energy consumption calculation).
What do I do if one of my club members is not getting email reports?
Check that the customer has a valid email address and change address if needed.
Some email service providers are filtering emails based on the sender or email content. It’s always recommended to use a real sender (reply to address) email account and your own or your ISP’s email server. Check the configuration from Installation Guide.
Make sure that the email has not arrived in the customer’s Spam folder.
